"Never Gonna Autumn in Love Again" is a song co-written and recorded by American pop rock artist Eric Carmen. It was released as the second single from Carmen's cocky-titled debut solo album, the vocal peaked at number 11 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart in June 1976, remaining in the Summit forty for ten weeks.[ane] The song reached number one on the Billboard Easy Listening chart. In Canada, it was a number-i hit on both charts.[2] [3]
The melody of "Never Gonna Autumn in Love Again" is based on the third motion (Adagio) from Symphony No. ii by Russian composer Sergei Rachmaninoff.
On his second solo LP, Boats Against the Current, Carmen had a subsequent Top 40 hit entitled "She Did It", a happy answer to the loneliness and lovelessness described in this song and its equally melancholy predecessor, "All Past Myself".
Television performance [edit]
Carmen performed "Never Gonna Autumn in Love Again" and his prior hitting, "All By Myself" on The Midnight Special idiot box program on July 23, 1976 (flavour 4, episode 37). The evidence was hosted past The Spinners.[4]

Australian singer songwriter Mark Holden recorded and released a version April 1976 as his debut unmarried. The vocal was a commercial success, peaking at number 13 on the Kent Music Report.[12] [thirteen]
Background and release [edit]
Mark Holden released his debut studio album Dawn in Darkness in 1975. Consisting entirely of original songs, the album was a commercial failure, selling approximately two,000 copies[fourteen] In April 1976 Holden received a call from Colin Petersen, EMI Music Commonwealth of australia'south A&R, who suggested he cover "Never Gonna Fall in Love Again". In his 2017 autobiography, Holden said recording information technology "was a chance for me to accept a hitting". Holden promoted the song by performing the track on Countdown, where he performed the track while handing out red carnations to the audition. It became an infamous performance which led to Holden'southward nickname of "The Carnation Child"[15]

Different "All by Myself," Carmen's version of "Never Gonna Fall in Love Again" was not released in Australia and therefore did not nautical chart. However, Dana reached #31 in the U.k. in 1976 with the song.[16] Her British release charted meantime with Carmen'southward and Holden's versions.
Other versions [edit]
- Frank Sinatra performed the vocal many times in concert in the late 1970s, most notably during the 1976 MDA Telethon. Fond of Eric Carmen's songs, he had arrangements made of both this song and "All By Myself." He never recorded either song.
- Tony Burrows covered the song in 1976 with the studio group Magic.
- Spanish singer Miguel Bosé besides covered it (in English) in his debut LP Linda in 1977.
- John Travolta covered the vocal in 1978.
- Tommy Page covered the song on his 1991 album From the Eye.
